On July 20th the Fraternity of Sermig started its permanent presence in Jordan.
The former professional school of the Latin Patriarchate in Madaba begins to be transformed to “Bayt Illiqa” Center by the Fraternity of Sermig. Many young people who live in Madaba start to collaborate as volunteers and contribute to the restoring work.
“Bayt Illiqa” Center is officially registered as a free charitable center for people with disabilities by the Ministry of Social Development.
In September it welcomes the first group of 8 children with disabilities aged 6 to 14. The number of beneficiaries increases in the following months upon the introduction of vocational training program and one-on-one lessons of speech therapy, physiotherapyand school support.
Construction of a second floor of the building to add spaces and have the possibility to welcome all the services that are increasing.

On May 15th “Bayt Illiqa” Center (Arsenale dell’Incontro) is officially inaugurated under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Raad Bin Zeid and in the presence of His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and of Ernesto Olivero, founder of Sermig. This event marked a new beginning with a further impetus to the involvement of the local community in all its components.
Occupational Therapy is added to the offered services.
After the qualification of some of the specialists, early intervention sessions start to be offered to answer to the needing of children with disabilities aged 0 to 6 and their families.

The Center receives a praise from “The Higher Council for the Affair of People with Disabilities” for achieving accreditation standard in the offered service.

On April 9th The President of the Italian Republic H.E. Sergio Mattarella visit “Bayt Illiqa” (Arsenale dell’Incontro), accompanied by his daughter Ms. Laura Mattarella and by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Enzo Moavero Milanesi.

Completion of a new sport and socializing area. This new space provides a multifunctional sport field and a shaded area for gathering, fostering a wider range of inclusive activities for our community. The new area is inaugurated on November 29th, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mired Raad Zeid Al-Hussein and in the presence of Dr. Muhannad Alazzeh, Secretary General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Fabio Cassese, Ambassador of Italy in Jordan, Dr. Jamela Al-Raiby, WHO Representative to Jordan, Dr. Emilio Cabasino, Director of AICS (Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation) Amman, and Mgr. Jamal Daibes, Auxiliary Bishop for Jordan of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
World Health Organization (WHO) selected our center as one of only two sites in Jordan to deliver its Caregiver Skills Training (CST) package. This accomplishment was supported by the certification of four of our staff members as CST Master Trainers.

“Bayt Illiqa” Center obtains from Ministry of Social Development the license as Inclusive Day Service Center (it has been the first private Center in Jordan to obtain it).
Expanding the space for sports and socializing activities thanks to the construction of an inclusive play area and developing of the agricultural project thanks to the installation of a hydroponic greenhouse.
